The card in question is Experimental Confectioner, which has risen from less than two dollars to over $10 in the last month.
Why did it spike?
This is mainly caused by it’s synergy with the sought-after commander Ygra, Eater of All, from the new Bloomburrow set which released last week. However, the price for Confectioner is also driven by the fact that this card can only be pulled from Jumpstart packs, so supply is more limited than if it were in the main WOE set.
Ygra turns all other creatures into “Food,” allowing some insane combos with the Confectioner (and putting +1/+1 counters on Ygra to make it a massive threat at instant speed).
- Adding Ashnod’s Altar provides infinite colorless mana, by sacrificing a Rat/Food which was created by the Confectioner, which then creates another Rat/Food due to Experimental Confectioner’s ability.
- Adding Phyrexian Altar creates infinite colored mana, for the same logic listed above.
- Viscera Seer allows you to scry infinitely to ensure you have the best card needed on top of your Library.
